GRTU x EDF Event at Gruene Outfitters
April 5 th , 5 P.M. – 8 P.M.Event Schedule:
5:00 P.M – GUADALUPE RIVER ENTOMOLOGY
Presenter: Chris Johnson, Living Waters Fly Fishing
Join us for an interactive class on the basics of Guadalupe River entomology. Chris Johnson will be bringing a tank full of aquatic insects and invertebrates for you to identify and observe.
During this class, you’ll learn how to correctly identify local insect species, how to properly match your Hill Country hatch, and you will learn the part our insects play in fly design. This class is fun for kids and adults alike! You might want to bring your fly box and see how your fly selection compares to what the fish are eating on a daily basis!6:00 P.M. – FLY CASTING DEMO
Presenter: Chris Johnson, Living Waters Fly Fishing
Do you know how to fly cast in tight quarters? How’s your distance cast? No matter your fly casting skill level, this class will have something for you! From short creek shots to long double hauls, FFI Certified Casting Instructor Chris Johnson will demonstrate a range of casts and practice techniques to help you diversify and improve your skill set. Bring a notepad and pen, because there will be plenty of tips that you will want to remember! This class will take place outside, in the side lot next to Gruene Outfitters.7:00 P.M. – PURSUING AND CONSERVING BONEFISH IN THE BAHAMAS
Presenter: Sepp Haukebo Environmental Defense Fund
Join us for our premier presentation of the evening with Sepp Haukebo from the Environmental Defense Fund. He and two local Bahamian guide friends will be discussing their conservation efforts in the Bahamas, upcoming film release, and how you can make the most of your next saltwater fly fishing trip! Learn the importance of the fishery, how to improve your saltwater fishing skills, and what to expect before you go! Their film, A Line in the Sand, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjnVwIb9pdg) tells the story of local guides from Andros, The Bahamas and their fight for conservation – the film will be premiering as part of the Fly
Fishing in Film Tour in Austin, TX the following day!Event is rain or shine as we will move inside at Gruene Outfitters if needed. We will have food, beers courtesy of Twisted X Brewing and non-alcoholic beverages from Lady Bird Soda and more.
