Hello all,
Another Newbie to fly fishing and to the Guadalupe for fly fishing.
While fishing upstream at the Action Angler parking lot recently I noticed the slab of limestone that I walked on (the riverbed) that stretched throughout my fishing area. I checked the bottom of a few rocks and only found one “bug”, while there were many snail-like creatures near the shore.
My question is, how did the flood a few years ago change the macro-invertebrate food source and the spawning grounds for the fish? I know the fish are mostly in the deeper pools of that area, but there seemed to be very few suitable spawning grounds or food sources (at least in that section of the river). Is that true for a lot of the Guadalupe?
Are there any river restoration plans for sections of the Guad to entice fish to spawn and “bugs” to grow? Or am I just fishing in the wrong area and don’t know what I’m talking about?
Sincerely interested, Bill
January 1, 2025 at 7:50 am #17129Along the lines of stream health, does anyone know of a study(ies) for the Guadalupe River (or similar) concerning sun-screen use by river floaters? Specifically how the sloughing off of sun-screen may affect macro-invertebrates, the transferring of O2 in the ripples, etc., or the water surface film elasticity?
I’m just wondering if there are more environmentally desirable sun-screen alternatives than those that are popular and commercially available.
Happy New Year!
January 6, 2025 at 7:25 am #17171I found a study by Texas State University concerning the Guadalupe River Basin, which also included tributaries and other area rivers that feed into the Guadalupe.
This means that the study went into detail in other areas where the average GRTU LAP member fishing for trout would not benefit.I’m still looking for a study highlighting the abovementioned fishing areas. I will report what I find.

January 15, 2025 at 8:15 pm #17211Well, apparently, this forum doesn’t get much traffic. I just came across this newsletter article from GRTU, 1999.
