I have no experience with MI or IA. I fished Vernon, Richland and Crawford counties in WI extensively, a little in western Sauk and southern La Cross. In 2021 I was there 2 weeks, in 2022 for 3 weeks and this yr. I’ll be there 4 weeks, every time arriving about May 5th. The weather in May is pleasant (35 some mornings to 84 some afternoons) and the vegetation is just starting to come out, by late summer you can expect hot, humid weather with high grasses lining the streams going through pastures, heavy brush in most other places. For the most part the streams are small, clear, very high banks, with spooky fish and silty dirt bottoms, sometimes soft. That entire area is the epicenter of a severe 2 yr. drought. I fished nymphs in water 18″+ and drys in anything less than 18″. Probably averaged 9 fish an hr., it wasn’t unusual to catch 6 to 8 fish is a small deep pool in just a few mins. To fish the shallow sections I was on my knees casting and moving slowly upstream, difficult but you’re not going to catch any in those sections if you stand up. Almost every stream I fished I caught fish.
I’d recommend an AirBnb that’s centrally located.
Can’t recommend TroutRoutes PRO enough, the easements are not very well marked. WI’s DNR website has a lot of information. WI offers a very inexpensive out of state fishing license if you haven’t had a WI license before, Nonresident Annual Fishing First-time Buyer License $28.75. I recommend Mike Warren as a guide, https://troutbuddy.com/ He offers a program I haven’t seen anywhere else, he can provide advice via chat, phone or email and provide locations via TroutRoutes app.
If you decide to fish this area of the Driftless send me a private message and I can provide more specific stream information.

I know that Lazy L&L has kayak rentals. They offer shuttle service also but this time of year not on Tues or Wed.

I have Korker’s boots. The best for me is a combination studs and felt. I tried just felt, they were good but not as good as the felt with studs. The Kling-On® Sticky Sole was very poor on the rocks. I’ll probably try the Vibram® Studded XS TREK™ Sole this winter.

I’ve seen them at River Bank and Meckle’s.

If you’re planning on fishing anywhere upstream of Potts I thing the temps will be good at least for the next few weeks, after that I think you’ll need to be upstream of Rio. It just depends on the flows, no rain = low flows = high temps.

Trice, I have the 10′ 3wt ESN. Very versatile rod, I use a mono rig about 60% of the time and with a WF4F line the rest of the time. It can do almost anything.

In defense of newer members that aren’t familiar with the access sites you need to understand that in the sticky titled Lease Access Program – 2021 – 2022 Season – Map the information for Rockin’R is incorrect, the street address and the Google map link take you to the wrong location. The Cove sign has been missing for at least a year and a half.

On your second spool I suggest a WF-4-F line. It works great on 3wt euro rods for streamers, drys and indicator fishing.

The LAP is not a private club, it is open to all TU members on a first come first served basis until all passes have be sold. Once the trout touch the water of the Guadalupe they belong to the citizens of Texas.

I fish streamers a lot on the Guadalupe. At these low flows it seems I spook a lot of fish before I’m close enough to euro nymph effectually. I use smaller sizes with little or no flash, mostly 1 1/2″ to 2″ long  but will fish some as small as an inch. Black or Grizzly Zonker strips work better for me in slower water, in faster water the trout don’t seem as picky, have less time to examine them. Weight wise I use everything from unweighted to 4.5 tungsten beads with some lead wire.

I have two articles from the 90’s documenting the entomology of the Guadalupe. Don’t know how to attach them. Send me your email address in a private message and I’ll send them to you. They used to be included in the archives section of GRTU’s website but disappeared spring of 2020.
