Hi! And welcome to GRTU and LAP.
It seems every season is a little different, high water changing the river bottom etc, so we all have to relearn a few things. But some things still remain as in most river systems. The best thing I did was go to the stockings, if you can you get to see the sites being stocked and have the opportunity to talk to some folks that have fished those sites and can point out the holes and the runs. Plus you might get to get to know that one special fish you get to meet again! And I guarantee you will never ever again release that many fish in one day! 🙂
Hey Egan,
it all depends on a lot of factors, what kind and length of kayak, maneuverable, stable but not edgy, (I don’t think I would try a canoe unless you were very proficient) and your own ability. You should be able to ferry across moving water quickly and without loosing ground and able to eddy in and out in strong currents. An anchor in my opinion is not a good idea, if it gets hung up it could be trouble but havea knife to cut it loose if you do. Don’t go alone and always wear a PFD.
I have been thinking about going myself but Fly fishing out of a kayak is difficult in flat water let alone moving and then you still have the problem of finding someplace to get out and wade fish.
just my two cents and rambling thoughts. I’ve done a lot of whitewater kayaking in my life so I always tend to the side of caution.
Well msp355-reply #1629 (since I can’t find how to reply directly or quote a reply)
it all depends on how much help we get, so every little bit helps. I would say that if you have to leave it is OK, just stay and help as long as you can. It is quite an experience!
