OK, I have to say something here since y’all are talking privileged individuals. If you are on here you ARE one of the privileged individuals. What about the hundreds of Texas Trout Unlimited members out there that aren’t LAP members? I was one of those up until two years ago, I had been a TU member for decades but always felt like a 3rd class citizen when it came to this chapter because I was not LAP and was not “informed” about any of the going ons. I remember riding my bike down River Road and seeing “the guys” stocking fish and though “crap! I would like to help do that!” We need help stocking but we don’t reach out to the general TU membership? They pay their monies to TU and those dollars do come back to support this chapter. And yes the LAP monies go to buy the trout, but we have to remember that there are a lot of TU members who could not get into the LAP program. And there are a lot that simply can’t afford the fee but still love to fish.
So before everybody here starts talking about things being all secretive and privileged everyone here at least got to know that the river was stocked and when. And if you go back and look at the previous info on the stockings you will have a pretty good idea of where it was stocked. If that isn’t good enough hire a guide! 🙂
BIG Thanks to all who helped. Sorry I could not make this one, I had a previous commitment.
It’s just like going to a new river somewhere, go find the fish by fishing and looking. Besides there are only sooo many LAP sites and a few non sites that get stocked. If you have ever done a stocking you know where they are.But if you want to keep it a secret keep it a secret from the rest of the world and make sure it doesn’t get plastered all over Facebook!
Trice are you saying that land owners along the Guad have rights to harvest fish illegally? I can see if some one has a pond on their property but just like our wading rights their property stops at the waters edge.
And, a lot of the “property” along the river is rentals. And, unfortunately those renters do not know the regulations, they were probably just told they could fish for trout off of the deck to help rent the property.
A friend of mine saw a discarded worm box at CVC, gee I wonder what ate those!? And where do you think that trout went? It would be a great start if we could just take bait fishing out of the equation and make the trout waters artificial only.
I wonder if every TU member wrote a letter to TPWD if it would make a difference. We all pay a lot of money, and time, to support this fishery, a lot of people come from all over to fish here, and spend their money here. I guarantee it would not be the same with just the scrawny state stockers!
I’ll get off my soap box now.. -
