I did attend the stocking a couple of weeks ago and saw very specific areas of the river (where we stocked) but not the other “named” areas. Plus, it is hard to ask someone if an area you can’t see has a particular name. Maybe my best bet is to start a message thread asking the group about specific named areas of the river.
Does anyone know if there is a map depicting the areas of the river that have names. Being new to the river and the group I have no idea where areas like the “Lower Slots”, “Mountain Creek Pool”, and “S-turn” are. I’m assuming these are names that have been bestowed by fisherman over the years since I cannot find them on any publicly available map. Thanks
Much appreciated. Will definitely holler soon. Hoping to get back down early next week. The Classic I have is a Cimarron which they dont make anymore. I think it is a 2014 or so. It had only been used once and stored properly so although it is “old” it is in perfect condition. Ive done plenty of kayaking over the years but the one-man float is a new one for me. Thanks again.
I fished today also and got skunked. My buddy however caught a 22″ about 30 yards downstream from the Summit steps (prince nymph). He also caught a 10″ on a small midge but that was it for the morning. We fished Summit from 8 – 10 and Rio until about noon. Need to find those uneducated fish!
You guys are describing me perfectly. I made the mistake of promising my wife I would not fish alone and this has severely limited my fishing. So yes, I am definitely interested in finding others to fish with. I live in the Waco area but can travel anywhere, just about anytime (the beauty of retirement). Also in my 70’s but in decent shape so getting around the river is not a problem. I just joined TU and GRTU this fall and have never fished the Guad so I’m really looking forward to this season. I also will be attending the stocking event this Friday (11/15) so hopefully I can meet you guys then. Also should add that I have FF for about 10 years (late starter) and have completely fallen in love with it. I hate to think of all those years wasted playing golf (I still play though) when I could have been on a river somewhere. Had the trip of my life early this October when all three of my sons managed to get time off to fish with the old man up in Chama, NM. I have fished the northern NM/southern CO area quite a bit with a close friend but having my sons on this trip was special to say the least.
Hope to meet up with your guys soon!

jfcmoore@gmail.comSounds like the perfect way to learn the river and meet some other fisherman. I will be making my trips to the Guad on my own the vast majority of the time so meeting up with some others would be ideal and make my wife much happier (she hates it when I fish solo). I’m being lazy here but when is the first stocking?
