The second stocking went very well. Thank you to all those that volunteered to get these fish into the river. The fish were smaller than expected with this load averaging about 13″. But since they were smaller the numbers we stocked in the river were much higher, 4160 this time. Here are the locations that we stocked: Maricopa, Rio, #5, S Turn (not a lease site, it can be accessed going down river from #5), Pott’s. Little Ponderosa, L&L Office, Devil’s Playground, Rocky Beach, CVC, River Bank, River Bluff, Bezdek’s.

I encourage that once there everyone double up so as to limit the traffic jam and parking along the way that is our stocking efforts. Plus you’ll get to talk to new anglers and discuss fishing the river. You’d be surprised what you can learn from another’s experiences.

Another thing that is real handy when wading in these high flows is studs in your boots. Much of the limestone is covered with algae and it is greasy. Studs bite through and into the limestone for much better footing. There are several kinds and I prefer the tungsten cloverleafs. There are also the tungsten headed screws which work pretty good too.
I am expecting GBRA to drop the flows again soon. I sure wish they would hold the lake in the recreational pool zone.

The buckets we carry the fish in from the hatchery truck to the water have rope handles. Gloves aren’t mandatory but they will save a little wear and tear on your hands. Something like heavy leather gloves you see at Home Depot or even some ski gloves, something like that.

I will check into the flow increases….. I just checked and there is no notice on the GBRA or WORD sites. Things will be closed tomorrow, but I will check again on Friday. If flows increase to 3000cfs, I think we should postpone. But until I know for sure the flows will be that high next Friday Nov 30th, we must plan that this is still a go to stock.

I would recommend either ski type gloves or thick leather work gloves. The buckets we haul to the river have rope handles and with the water and the Trout weight about 45lbs or so. I’ve hauled many without gloves, but gloves just make it easier on your hands through the course of the day.

Are you saying someone Caught Rainbow Trout that were less than 12″? How big were they? Where and how many were caught? If these caught fish were about 6″ this would mean the fry produced from Trout in the Classroom survived the summer and are growing as no fish this small have been stocked yet this year.

Yeap, once the stocking truck rolls down River Rd. the local gossips seem it their responsibility to tell everyone. We do strive to only tell LAP members before hand and they seem to be able to keep the secret up to the stocking date. The other news was that a vigorous cold front rolled through yesterday and the bite was significantly off, so the weather is providing an extended acclimation period.
