Alex,
I agree on your root cause analysis being loop size. So, up close is fine where I can lob or oval cast. When I’m throwing 2 size 24 black beauties with a .2 gram BB and a Dorsey at 40 feet into a little breeze it’s just not going to happen without tight loops. I’ve trimmed down the Dorsey and I’m going to make a couple of smaller ones. The only thing else I can come up with is to use 2-3 feet of 4x or 3x off my tippet ring (then 5x down to point) and that little more stiffness (where the indicator is attached) may make a difference. Thanks for your reply buddy. Hope to see you during the week soon ?.

June 15, 2021 at 8:54 am #12363Ok experts, if your bored here’s an opportunity for a little pro bono work. When I’m indicator fishing with a Dorsey I get tangled casting. I’m talking about a 30-40 foot real cast. As I usually fish fast deep water it’s not a showstopper for me but when I do find fish in calmer water I’m thoroughly convinced it’s a stealthier approach (than airlock). I’m usually running 6 to 10 feet of 5x from my tippet ring down to my point fly (or drop shot weights). I’ve only been using it for one season but I’m totally flummoxed on the constant tangles. I rarely get them tight lining or using an airlock.
Hope you get out soon,
Scott Miller

September 9, 2020 at 5:06 am #10325I meant to include this because it made such a wonderful difference this year. Historically my lower back starts hurting 2 hours into fishing, every time, all the time. I’ve used copper fit braces, Alieve, Coors Light, with some relief. I fished 30 days this summer pain free from this “Yoga For Strength- 40 Min Vinyasa” (yoga with Adrienne) program I started a while back. It took a while to build up but I’ll do it until I can no longer do so.</p>

September 5, 2020 at 12:26 am #10321Alex, I was using a standard Euro 2 nymph rig with 9 feet of tippet to the point was I was drop shotting 2.5 to 3 grams of weight 12 inches below the point. 12 feet of tippet on the Green.

After 13 days in Utah I drop Bill off at SLC International and head to Bozeman.
My camera stinks. Most of the earlier photos were taken with Bills phone so these are a downgrade.
1st stop Gallatin River.
Gallatin River near Big Sky.
Doug Spencer schooling the Gallatin trout in the fine art of Euronymphing.
The mighty Yellowstone at Yankee Jim Canyon. We got into some cutties above the bridge but the wind kicked up to 35 – 40 mph and blew us off the river.
The Madison was hitting 70 degrees by noon (it was very hot) but this section in Bear Trap Canyon was the highlight of the Montana fishing. It is beautiful and holds some really nice fish. We were pretty much limited to the morning.
The Madison dam between Ennis and Bear Trap Canyon.
Doug executing a stealth approach on the Gallatin River trout.
Ok so I didn’t take many pictures in my 10 days in Montana. Ill need a new phone next year.
Back to Orem Utah luxury accommodations for 8 days before I head home.
Hey, what do you expect for 40$ per night?
More Utah fish!
A Provo Police Captain insisted on getting taking this pic. I had a nice long conversation with him about his efforts and how they were greatly appreciated.
Bridal Veil Falls on the Lower Provo
I’m not going to subject you to any more blurry pictures.
Looking forward to the 1st stocking for our Guad.
See you on the river.
Come on rain!

June 29, 2020 at 12:07 pm #10254Thanks for posting Trice! That makes me real itchy! I’m pointing my Outback Northwest soon. Wish it was tomorrow. I like to hear the Euro rig works well on the SJ. I need to get back out there. It’s been quite some time.

May 13, 2020 at 5:48 am #10217The flow was @ 70 when the rain finally drove us off the river at 9:30. I drove back home west averaging 35 mph through a wall of rain. Fortunately was home when the water overcame The Startzville market.

February 15, 2020 at 3:29 pm #9767One fact getting lost in all of this is any trout whose length ends in “teen” is a quality fish. All LAP sites have been stocked with big, quality fish.
