What about having a limited early registration for people who either (1) Donate an extra amount (say $250+) to GRTU or (2) pledge to give 10 hours or more of their time to stocking, river cleanup, outreach, etc. during the pass year (perhaps losing their right to sign up the next year if they don’t follow through)?

This gets the people who care deeply about the fishery and GRTU a chance to get a pass before the masses. And you (1) don’t price folks out who have time to donate but not money to pay extra for early signup or (2) discriminate against newer members who still care about the river and want to do their part.

Potts has not been kind to me lately either.

With the lower flows, I’ve hooked up more using emergers and soft hackles on the swing and downstream lift than dead drifting.

Temps still cold enough that it would have made me regret wet wading Maricopa yesterday evening, if it weren’t for the bug-related event that took place around dusk.

Want to echo all the thanks for those of you who put in the work on Saturday. Spent this morning out on the water, and can confirm there are some very big trout in the river.

Nice fish. I managed to net two holdovers in the run below the riffles above Potts yesterday afternoon, including one on a chernobyl pattern. Was a bit surprised to find them there.

Just hoping for some good rains this winter so they have a chance to make it through another summer.

I fished the Gunpowder often when I lived in DC. That river, along with the upper Potomac, Savage, and Big Hunting Creek, make Maryland a sorely underrated place for catching trout on the fly.

Jimbo, in my younger days I was a big proponent of the jerk-and-cuss. But I have learned my lesson. The last jerk and cuss involved me uttering “g** damnit,” followed by not only by fly being dislodged from the tree, but the entire branch as well, which found its way into the side of my face. I’ve since adopted more gentle and less blasphemous approaches.

I arrived at Potts around 4PM. It was definitely fishing well and was a very buggy early evening. The trout were slamming emergers in the surface film just before dusk.

Such a great lease spot. Hope everyone obeys the parking limit there as it would be awful to lose it.

703 had its upside – I could skip leg day at the gym and go fishing instead.

I was there from noon until 2:45 today, I did not see the sign or have one put on my truck. Strange.

Cassio’s point is spot on. I’d also add that size, more than color or even pattern, is key on the Guad (as others have posted on here before). Especially after a couple months of getting pounded, smaller files and proper presentation are the key.

That said, if I could take only five patterns on the Guad: soft-hackle beadhead pheasant tail; RS-2; black flash woolly bugger; zebra midge; and a Czech caddis.
