Agreed to all — Thanks Robilyn and the entire GRTU team for all of the hard work to make this process possible this year. I’m sure I speak for others when I say this is a huge confidence boost and added hope for the future of GRTU and freshwater trout fishing in Texas. Catch y’all on the river!
October 3, 2021 at 12:41 am #12934Lots of ideas, Steve and Barry both have great points.
Barry is right in that while we may not have the choice over WHO specifically gets these future lease passes, we can definitely decide HOW. Now I’m no economist, but I think it’s safe to say that taxation in general is a disincentive for one activity, and an incentive for another. The ultimate goal is for civilians to cause specific changes in society with a little “motivation” so to speak.
But, using the same concept with Steve’s suggestion, if our goal as an organization is to build conservation-minded leaders to impact the Guadalupe and the quickly-disappearing hill country ecosystem as a whole, then let’s use this LAP to our advantage. The LAP is the prize, so how bad do people really want it? Are they willing to contribute to the actual organization and donate time? Say we go with a lottery, but instead of simply paying for a single entry, you get additional opportunities to add entries. These could be through hours on river clean up, donating time to informationals and classes, donating time to meet and educate landowners. Shoot, some of y’all could even spur some conservation easements on the Guad (working on this one when I can).
Point is, the more we align the LAP program with our org’s goals the better. I think this could be a huge asset for change. Not only would this increase the likelihood of ACTIVE members getting passes, but also really fuel our org’s ability to impact the region we care about. All on board for this.
Jimbo – We really appreciate everything y’all do to make this happen. None of this could happen without GRTU in the first place. Will definitely be on the river either public or LAP, whichever works out!

October 16, 2019 at 12:03 am #5556Did we lose the whitewater campground this year? If I remember correctly, last year was a test year for the lease spot.
November 26, 2018 at 2:59 pm #2117I think I will be able to make it. May be able to bring some extra hands as well.
