Thanks for the detailed reply, Jimbo. Your sage wisdom always prevails in these discussions.

My great-grandfather always used to tell me that fly-fishing was about the commune with nature, never stepping into the same water twice, any maybe, by the Grace of God, occasionally catching a fish. Tight lines, gentlemen (and ladies); see you on the River.

Dana, if you get the opportunity, head to the Yellow Breeches in PA. It’s a fantastic stream that I fished many times when I attended the US Army War College up in Carlisle, PA. Best wishes. Tight lines.

Wiscoy, I have an opinion and let Dustin know about it on the two sign-up days. Like many who have commented, I believe a “veteran” status would be appropriate – whether that’s a five-year or longer span is up to the masses. One thing to consider – over time, you’d need to increase the veterans’ tenure. Otherwise, after five years, all the ‘newbies’ would be veteran-status as well and we’d have the same fiasco we had last year and this.

The Guad is just too popular now. You can’t get close to solitary fishing on a weekend or holiday. I arrived to the area in 2014 and fished that first season as a LAP member. There were days I never say another wader fishing. Now, it reminds me of salmon fishing in Alaska (hundreds of your “best friends” fishing shoulder-to-shoulder) or Atlantic Salmon fishing in Quebec (sitting on a bench waiting for your turn in the rotation through the better pools). I still work for a living (and will until my beautiful wife decides I can retire (LOL)), so I now take leave from work during the week in order to fish. (And during last year’s “COVID Season”, I still had too much company on the water.)

I understand the point of GRTU – to make the Guad a river in which trout may thrive and potentially, in the case of the Browns, become a self-sustaining population. The idea is brilliant, the fishing isn’t the priority, but I’d venture to say that the majority of us “veteran” LAP members would like to enjoy the solitude and occasional tight line that the Guad offers thanks to our contributions to GRTU and the LAP.

I appreciate everything our Board does, but maybe there are other ideas they could (should?) consider.

    SYOTR. Tight lines, gentlemen.
