I guess I missed the memo – exactly when did GRTU stock browns? Since have been a LAP member for many years am wondering why did not see a stocking notice? Is there a reason this stocking appears to have happened in secret? Can someone pls provide some clarification on what is going on?

The badge they are referring to is the small mini tag with your number on it. It has a small hole on the corner so you can attach to your person. It is not the old style badge that we used to get that pinned to your hat or vest, until it wasn’t. Lost mine at least 2 times in the 15 years that we had them.

While I like the idea, I think weekday and weekend memberships would be a logistical nightmare for the administrators and then what happens if someone with a weekend pass has a few days off and wants to fish on a weekday………….. as you can see, a nightmare.

While you both make good points, it should be noted that of the 850 LAP members only a very small number actually put time in to the help the organization – Trout Fest, etc. I have been a member of GRTU for at least 16 years and can’t ever remember having 850 people show up for a meeting or GRTU activity so in my mind that means that a vast majority of the 850 LAP members are only there to fish, which is ok. Therefore, I would agree with Alex that we need to modify the signup system since many of the long term members of GRTU that are the ones that actually support the organizational activities as volunteers have been left out of the program this year because of the quick sellout. My 2 cents is as follows.
We should open the LAP enrollment for 600 members for a period of 3 days to only those that were members the previous year – this could easily be verified by adding a place on the application for last years lease member number. In addition, to stop a run on the site, I would suggest that the web guys setup a queue system where once you log into the system you are placed in a queue and you wait your turn to go through the signup process. This approach should help to control the bandwidth requirement and stop the system from crashing.
The remaining 250 slots could then be offered to new prospective members after the 3 day initial period has expired – I would again suggest using a queue system to control the process. This method also allows the past members that missed their opportunity to renew their pass during the first 3 days a second chance in case they were out of town or had some other reason for missing their opportunity.
One other item that could be added to the mix is to give some form of credit to the many volunteers that make our organization work and allow them to signup during the first hour on the first day before opening up sales for the remaining 600 memberships. I think this process could really help with participation levels in some of the organizations activities.
I know some of you are going to complain about any restrictions or changes because you have jobs, families and all the other things that use your time, but those of us that have supported the organization for many years should not be pushed out of the programs that we developed, nurtured and made work just because now the program is successfully popular.

Tried signing up first thing this morning (7AM) and finally completed transaction after 2 1/2 hours. Had to refresh every page numerous times and then once completed ended up with 2 pending charges against CC. Am sure that will be fixed, but truly was an exasperating experience – there has to be a better way like maybe setting up a queue system so system doesn’t get over loaded, but will leave it to the IT Professionals to sort out.
Thx to Dustin for getting the system functional in a relatively short time.

You may also ask why the GRTU flow page STILL has not been fixed after a year and a half. When I raised it at the October meeting last year was told it only needed some code updating and would be a minor fix. Seems to me with everyone at home these days the site could have been fixed by our IT guy, if not, maybe we should hire someone to do it.
