Thanks to all for the advice. Have been using the Taco egg for a couple seasons now (stocked up on eggstasy last year), but find that after 3 weeks or so do better with midges. I think fish get wise to the egg, but may be wrong since Alex catches fish on them all season long. As far as the perdigon, any color recommendations? Have done OK with pink ones, but always open to new information.

Thank you, now only need to get back to the bench and determine what bibs and bobs need to buy. Most I have, but some bead and thread colors are new so will need to put together an order. Otherwise should be fun trying new things, but am going to order a second spool for the reel and setup for indicator fishing so can change out any time as I grow my experience with this method.

So I went out and bought an Orvis Clearwater outfit (3wt. 10ft) for Euro nymphing and now am trying to figure out what flies I need for the Guad. Can I ask all to provide some suggestions of flies I may need and sizes. Looked online and found numerous choices, but all had sizes of 12-16, with a few 18’s, which seems a bit large for the Guad. Also, looks like I will need to expand my tying materials for these new flies…….
I know this is asking a lot since your fly selection is based on time on the water, but was just trying to get a jump on the game. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

OK, I agree with Bill and we should wait for the survey and the results to be reviewed before making any final changes. I too have an opinion on what to do, but we need to address the issue using common sense.
I do have one question though, since the poachers usually have coolers either at the river or in the car, would it not make sense for the Game Wardens to just sit at the parking lots and check coolers like they do on the coast. This way would be hard to deny poaching.

Jerry, I agree with you. The constant barrage of pictures showing big trout on FB is doing nothing other than compounding the problems with the masses attack on the trout in the river. In addition, the count down to buy LAP passes that was posted also increased the havoc associated with pass purchases on October 1st. Everyday they updated with the number of days until they went on sale and told people to be ready at 7:00 AM to get their shot at a pass. I guess my question is, who from GRTU is posting this information and why? While I have no issue with posting on FB, I agree that the message should be more about TU and conservation rather than the fish put in the river.
One last thing, I think that if this chaos continues we may have to consider suspending the LAP for a year or 2 until we can get a handle on the program and get back on track to what the stockings were meant to be – an attempt to develop a sustainable trout fishery not an open fish market for the public.

As I recall, we have tried to stock 14-16″ when available for just the reasons Robert pointed out. Unfortunately, this year at the first couple of stockings this size fish was not available so larger fish were stocked. To follow up, we then got a batch from Nebraska that fit the size we were looking for, but because of warm weather and the longer travel time many were on life support when they arrived here. So the real choices are as follows: if you want to stick to the 14-16″ size only, then be prepared to live with delays to the start of the trout fishing season to accommodate the plan and maybe fewer stockings overall because of a lack of fish in this size range; as the alternative, accept the larger fish and continue the program along the normal timeline. The choice is ours, we just have to agree and let Dan know how we think we should proceed.

Other than Bill Marshall, and a couple others no one in a leadership position monitors the forum. You have to go to the website and send them an email.

I think hiring someone to oversee the lease sites is a great idea, like having a Riverkeeper. We can even hire 2 so we have a backup and split it up so each has a few days. If we add a LAP membership as part of the salary am sure would have plenty of interest. Doing this would make a tiered system possible since could police it. I would guess that a modest price increase would be required to support this effort, but if it helps us to improve the program I’m game. My also cut down on the poaching since will have eyes on the river that can call the game warden.
