I think hiring someone to oversee the lease sites is a great idea, like having a Riverkeeper. We can even hire 2 so we have a backup and split it up so each has a few days. If we add a LAP membership as part of the salary am sure would have plenty of interest. Doing this would make a tiered system possible since could police it. I would guess that a modest price increase would be required to support this effort, but if it helps us to improve the program I’m game. My also cut down on the poaching since will have eyes on the river that can call the game warden.

Well said Jerry, and I concur especially with the Facebook page. Besides the boasting of the large fish, there is the constant barge of advertising on the LAP program and a count down to sign up day. Its no wonder we have an issue with sites like Kanz being hammered and the sign up process for LAP.

Doug57: Stocking Kanz is a magnet for the non-LAP members that results in significant poaching of the fish. If you don’t believe us go down there some day and count the coolers. Most of the other sites you mentioned charge a fee for access which keeps the crowds down although you are right that non-LAP members do fish there, but it is not the mob scene like Kanz.

On a positive note , at least they were concentrated in one place leaving the rest of the river open to LAP members ?

Just adds fuel to the fire that we need to stop stocking this section of the river since I am sure that most of these folks are not TU LAP members.

Losing so many hooked fish – must just be out of practice which happens early in the season, but am sure you will sharpen those skills. Hooking 16 still is not a bad day.

Never said anyone did anything wrong, point was just to allow trout a fighting chance once stocked.

First stocking point was above the horseshoe at Riverside motel. You maybe right that was a holdover but odds are was not and yes, someone is always watching as we have for years been trying to build a self sustaining fishery and need everyone’s help. ?
