I’ve sent Dan an email about this, but, as he probably already knows, a tree has fallen across the path down to the river from River Rose.   We’re not supposed to use it to go to the river, but, if memory serves, that’s how we stocked last time.

I’d love to hear how you do with this approach.

I’ll do my best to be there.

    Thank you, Dan.

According to Dan, the fish at the recent stocking are the largest we will get all year.   So, we’ll have smaller, but more, trout in future stockings.

Tried lots of nymphs, but all of the fish took eggs (I think).

Fished on Monday, both upper and lower river.  A near total failure of attention resulted in only 5 of 16 trout landed.  The good news is that the fish are there and eating.

J.C. you break FIPS Mouche rules at your own peril.   Remember, those rules are there for a reason:  to keep people from catching too many fish!

You were at JDL, where trout did indeed hold over.  It is extremely unlikely that trout we stocked at Whitewater or at Maricopa had time to migrate to JDL, so you did nothing wrong.  And congratulations on your Euro success.

That message should get out to the guides, Ron.  Driving up River Road after the stocking, I was saddened by the number of guide boats out there chasing disoriented trout.

You’re posting in a thread whose first post announces, and gives details about, the first stocking.

I don’t think that eggs should be permitted on the Guad.  If we let people fish with eggs, what’s next, drop shotting?  Bounce nymphing?  Euro nymphing (which is basically spinning with a fly rod)?  Once Pandora’s box is opened, there’s no saying what abominations will fly out.

Seriously, perdigons (pellets, actually) are a great way to get deep while staying small.  Btw, if you want to get deep with a small perdigon, it helps to use a thin tippet.

The Dryft waders I now own are my second pair.  My first developed a leak about after a year of use.  I contacted the company and they sent me my second pair at no cost and without asking to look at the first pair.  Now, that’s customer service.  You might try getting in touch with them.

You must really love the Guad, Bernie.  That’s a long drive from Vermont.

I should be able to make it.
