Above the weir would be good from a boat, not so much wading (swimming). But, to answer your question, I haven’t fished the area in a long time and the anglers I’ve asked about the fishing there have been universal in their reports of little to no luck.

November 6, 2021 at 12:17 pm #14175Hi Justin,
Do you mean the Chute at River Bluff? If so, I don’t think that there are any trout that far downstream. In fact, I haven’t seen any holdovers downstream of Mountain Creek Pool.

October 30, 2021 at 1:24 pm #14120Maybe not getting the email blast about the LAP packets coming is actually a sign of favor with the river gods. I just got my packet. Thanks everyone.
BTW, I notice that Maricopa is now Horseshoe Riverside Lodge. Sounds stodgier, but I suppose more appropriate.
October 22, 2021 at 7:46 am #14073I don’t think that using a tandem rig vs. using tags determines where in the water column your flies drift. I think that placement of weight does. For example, you could use a tandem rig with a split shot close to your point fly and a second fly twenty inches above that. In that case, the point fly would drift near the bottom and the top fly considerably above that.
But, to answer your question, I’ve become very fond of a dropshot rig of late. I typically use two dropper tags above my weight, ensuring that my flies drift at different depths. There’s lots of good information on dropshot nymphing out there, but my favorite is a video by Dave Rothrock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgYtC__K8DE.

October 18, 2021 at 9:39 am #14043When I signed up, I wasn’t asked for a TU member ID, but I did get an email confirmation not long after I renewed.
October 15, 2021 at 4:13 pm #14016Just got the email from Dustin. However, there’s no Senior option as a membership type. What should I do? I don’t mind paying a regular membership price; I just don’t want TU to be confused.
And, btw, thanks to all for making this happen.
October 8, 2021 at 8:47 am #12984It was great being out there with you and JC. You were an incredible student, picking up Euro fishing in no time flat. And JC was a wonderful teacher, informative and patient. For my part, I was comic relief (maybe).
Looking forward to the next installment.

October 1, 2021 at 4:07 pm #12922Jimbo,
I agree with most of what you say. However, there are things we can do to prevent systemic favoritism in our registration process.
First, and this is obvious, we have to handle technology better. I sat in front of my computer for five hours this morning because the system crashed. Please, no excuses. This shouldn’t have happened.
Second, with the greater demand for LAP memberships that we are now facing, registering online favors the retired (myself included), the wealthy, the unemployed, and those whose jobs are flexible enough that they can take the time required to get a membership. But, those who are screwed are working people, especially working people who can’t man their computers during a working day. For example, last year, when I was teaching middle school, there is no way I could have sat at my computer for five hours like I did today. And there would be no way that I could have excused myself from the classroom on a Tuesday in the middle of the school day. So, the board can do at least this: make registration during a day when most people don’t work. That could be a holiday, or a Sunday. Or, at the very least, during a weekday evening. But to move registration to the middle of a working day (noon on a Tuesday) does give one group of people priority over another, among whom, apparently, is one tireless defender of the river named Jimbo Roberts, and that is not fair.

October 1, 2021 at 2:19 pm #12914When I mess up, my initial impulse is to blame someone or something. For example, it wasn’t my fault that my printer crashed, so how could I have submitted the paper on time. After that, I’m tempted to be angry at the people who have the courage to be honest with me, telling them to chill. What I find most difficult is to simply accept responsibility for what went wrong. I find it especially hard to understand that the people who aggressively point out my shortcomings are actually doing me a favor. This is very hard for me.
