As one of the GRTU members who let other people do their work, I’d like to thank everyone who participated and lend my support to Jimbo’s decision not to divulge where large trout were stocked.
February 3, 2020 at 9:20 am #9366I understand (thanks, JC) that we won’t be stocking at JDL anymore. We also haven’t renewed our Whitewater Camp lease. Are there any plans for stocking the stretch between Whitewater and the deep pool below Maricopa?
Of course, there are a lot of wild fish in that area, and without stocking and the resultant decrease in fishing pressure, they may have a chance to survive.

January 27, 2020 at 9:21 am #9150That is very disheartening. We should all call the wardens as soon as we see such activity, but, sadly, my phone loses its signal just downstream of #5.
January 22, 2020 at 2:26 pm #8958That’s DeLoach. JDL. stands for John DeLoach. One of the nicest people around. Always has a kind and supportive word for any angler he sees fishing by his house, especially early in the morning.

January 20, 2020 at 5:41 pm #8897It’s above Whitewater. It used to be a lease site, but is no longer one.
January 19, 2020 at 3:51 pm #8862The flows at Spring Branch are now up to 205 cfs. Looking good.

January 18, 2020 at 5:17 pm #8838As I said previously, I couldn’t make it either. Thanks to all who helped out.
Could someone tell those of us who weren’t there today which sites were stocked?

The browns are for the next stocking. I’m sure that there will be an announcement when it’s imminent.
Dan: I can’t be at the stocking tomorrow. Can you post the sites that will be (or were, if you post tomorrow) stocked?

January 14, 2020 at 12:24 pm #8702The flows were reduced on Friday (to 40 cfs., not to 0), so I assumed that the work was done then. Does anyone know more?

January 14, 2020 at 8:45 am #8694I haven’t seen it at River Bluff this year, but I have in years past. I hate it when it happens, but, given that it’s their back yard, I fear that there isn’t much we can do about it.
I do call the game wardens when I see an obvious infraction, but, this year, the only game warden that I’ve seen in action is at Whitewater, where he periodically swoops down on folks who look like they don’t have licenses and tickets them.

January 6, 2020 at 9:09 pm #8466JDL is upstream from Whitewater. Kanz is downstream of Whitewater (or upstream from Rio). And S-Turn is downstream of #5 (or upstream from Pott’s). All of these are relatively easy wades.

January 6, 2020 at 11:51 am #8444Very exciting. I do have a question, though. If the first stocking was two truckloads, and this is another full truckload, isn’t that what we usually stock for a year? If so, how many browns are we thinking about stocking?

December 17, 2019 at 8:10 am #7819Hi Scott,
Mine was a small (16 or 18) Quilldigon, so no red anything. All were caught in shallow riffles, so I suspect the reason for their preference for the dropper is how and where it drifted. BTW, I caught nothing on the dropper in deeper water.
Hope to see you out there some day.

December 16, 2019 at 6:57 pm #7801I caught a bunch of little wild rainbows on Monday. All were caught from Whitewater (more or less) upstream. Interestingly, they all took my dropper.

December 16, 2019 at 3:12 pm #7796Yesterday, I caught some of my fish on a size 12 Walt’s Worm and some on a size 18 Trout Crack. So, yes, it’s mainly presentation. But it’s also about showing them something they haven’t seen, or been hooked on, previously.
