They’ll be up in early May.

It’s good to hear that the temperatures at #5 are holding up.

And thanks, Jerry, for taking care of the fish.

Please take a thermometer with you when you fish and stop fishing when the temperature rises above 69 degrees. I suspect that anything downstream of Rio is too warm given the flows were having coupled with hot sunny days.

That’s not what I asked. Did you check the water temperature? If it was anywhere near 70 degrees, you may have killed five trout. You can catch trout when the temperatures get too warm to fish for them safely, but trout mortality increases exponentially when they’re fought with warm water temperatures.

Did you check the water temperature, Michael? I suspect that the water was too hot to fish for trout, but I don’t want to presume.

It’s good to have one monitor working. Does anyone (Dan?) have a sense of when the others will be up?

I suspect that what you saw was Trico spinners making babies.

Thanks for taking a temperature reading. Does anyone know about the status of the temperature monitors?

Like Trey, I’m. grateful to all those who helped clean up our river. Although I was out fishing on Friday, and was lucky enough to run into Jimbo, I was unable to lend a hand on Saturday. Thank you to all who did.

    Thank you, Dan.

It’s so good to read your fishing posts again, Jimbo. I look forward to more.

Once you are on the river, you can wade up or downstream to your heart’s content. The only limiting factor is sore feet at the end of the day.

The password is on your LAP tag. Seasonal leases elapse on March 31.

    Ditto, re Enrique’s commentary.

Trey, you said that many of the competitors told you that the Guadalupe is a difficult river to fish. To give that statement some context, the top three scores in our mini were 8, 7, 5 (# of fish). The top scores in the Bear River Mini, which took place the same day as ours, were 65, 35,34. The top three scores in the BFC Mini, which took place on 3/19, were 10, 9, 7.

You’re right, Trey. One competition doesn’t really yield much useful information about angling prowess because there’s a lot of chance involved. In our recent comp, some beats consistently produced better than others (and I was lucky enough to get two of the better ones), and it mattered how many anglers had already picked that beat apart. Over time, I think that cream rises to the top, and, in our comp, Madoka was clearly premium cream. But the results of a single comp are, at best, a combination of skill and a lot of contingent variables.
