I think that asking for a tackle/equipment recommendation on a fly fishing board is like asking a bunch of 8th graders what the best ice cream flavor is.
Having said that, I, upon the recommendation of Chris Johnson, am wearing Simms Flyweight boots. I really like them, but I’m not sure if everyone will.

October 7, 2022 at 11:53 am #15393For whatever reason (JC has an interesting theory), browns don’t seem to survive well in our river. That’s why I voted against stocking them. Perhaps browns that were born in the Guad will adapt to its conditions better. Thanks for the update, Jimbo.
October 3, 2022 at 11:35 am #15386See you at the first (as well as at those that follow) stocking, Jimbo.
September 29, 2022 at 9:21 pm #15374Malcolm, I suggest that you participate in one or more of our stockings. You’ll learn a lot about the river and its fish, including the names of pools, runs, etc.

August 10, 2022 at 3:14 pm #15342It’s funny that someone who has such a sunny personality should walk around with a cloud over his head. But, who am I to look a gift storm in the eye? It’s great to hear from you, Jimbo. Now, get serious with that rain. We need a lot more than .40″.

July 21, 2022 at 8:20 am #15335I understand your concern (it’s shared by many of us), but there are no “minimum flow rates.” The limiting factor is temperature, and high temperatures will eventually abate. I’ve been around in years when we stocked with flows lower than they are now and the trout, although rather easy to locate because their holding water was obvious, did fine.
Having said that, it would be great to get some rain and higher flows for the fall. Where is Jimbo (and his drums) when we need him?

July 4, 2022 at 3:35 pm #15329The only monitor that was working has now expired. Is there any news on the delay in getting the monitors up to speed?
May 27, 2022 at 1:23 pm #15310It’s good to hear that the temperatures at #5 are holding up.
And thanks, Jerry, for taking care of the fish.
May 27, 2022 at 10:48 am #15308Please take a thermometer with you when you fish and stop fishing when the temperature rises above 69 degrees. I suspect that anything downstream of Rio is too warm given the flows were having coupled with hot sunny days.
May 27, 2022 at 9:35 am #15305That’s not what I asked. Did you check the water temperature? If it was anywhere near 70 degrees, you may have killed five trout. You can catch trout when the temperatures get too warm to fish for them safely, but trout mortality increases exponentially when they’re fought with warm water temperatures.

May 26, 2022 at 4:03 pm #15303Did you check the water temperature, Michael? I suspect that the water was too hot to fish for trout, but I don’t want to presume.
May 11, 2022 at 10:19 am #15298It’s good to have one monitor working. Does anyone (Dan?) have a sense of when the others will be up?

May 5, 2022 at 6:28 pm #15290Thanks for taking a temperature reading. Does anyone know about the status of the temperature monitors?
