Jerry, this statement is very accurate – “The simple solution IMHO is to lobby for what most (if not all?) trout fisheries have is a true quality water fishery. Artificial only, absolutely no bait allowed and catch and release. Not the whole river but a LAP section that we stock. THEN we have to get the wardens to actually float the and patrol the river. The ones we had talk to us didn’t want to get wet! We need to look at how much money we spend on trout, tally up the income that it brings into the area and push for some changes. All it will do is improve the fishing and we can have a much more enjoyable experience.”
The Board earlier this year authorized GRTU paying for an intern (20 hours per week) working at GBRA and that person when hired will have their first project be an Economic Impact study on our trout stocking and it’s impact on the Canyon Lake area. A previous one was done a while back by TPWD that put the value in excess of $1,000,000 but that was not all encompassing and we believe the number is quite a bit higher. We have great relationships at TPWD and have and will continue to advocate for exactly what you are talking about in your comment. Carter Smith is the Keynote Speaker at the TFTX 22 Banquet and although not the time or place to discuss this matter with him, the relationship and line of communication is extremely beneficial when advocating for rule changes. I also feel having Chris Johnson as our Conservation Chair and point person for these discussions will be extremely helpful. We would love to snap our fingers and make this a reality but unfortunately it simply doesn’t work that way. Our new Warden is floating the river in a kayak as an FYI.
Another aspect of this is we need to increase the number of lease access sites. If anyone has relationships on the river and would like us to pursue a lease with the homeowner or business, please get that information to Dan Cone.

David – on TU National’s site it shows you started your membership on 04/27/2021 and that it expires on 04/30/2022. If you were charged for a renewal, please email me that information to wmarsh422@msn.com and I’ll send it to national to get it squared away. You are getting renewal requests as your membership needs to go thru the end of the LAP year which is October 2022. Bill
rdmenzel7 and egan, please send an email to Dustin at vp-membership@grtu.org so he can make certain you guys are on the LAP group email list. Please check your junk or spam email also and if it’s going there add the from email address to your safe senders list.
The Chapter HAS funded a new website and it was discussed at the Chapter Meeting last month. We reviewed the site with the developer on Friday and are making some changes. Should be live by the end of January. The Forum issues should be addressed by the changes.
For those of you having the download guest pass issue, please send me your email address you used to sign up and your order #. These need to be reset on an account by account basis. For whatever reason it is showing they have been previously downloaded. I am aware that this can be an error so please send me the information to wmarsh422@msn.com and I’ll get the information over to him.
On buying guest passes, the link is working and just to confirm, this is the link https://members.grtu.org/product/lap-guest-and-youth-pass-bundle/#lap-membership-guest-passes
Hope this gets folks squared away. I’m at Lost Maples so will be out of touch beginning really soon until tonight.
