I think creating three different LAP passes that designate WHEN you can fish is a viable solution.

    1. 7 days a week (sell 325 passes)
    2. Mon-Fri (sell 325 passes)
    3. Sat-Sun (sell 325 passes)

This increases the total amount of GRTU lease members, which helps us grow (975 total).  It also decreases the number of lease members who have access to the river on any given day (down to 650).

Thanks for mediating this conversation, Jimbo; I realize you have stepped out of that role.  We appreciate your presence on this forum.

I’m late to the party here… and certainly not an expert.  Its looks like some good advice has already been given.

I’d suggest a Belgian cast to keep the tangles at a minimum and even cheat a bit with a full water load behind you.  Just sweep the line sidearm downriver, let the flys extend in the current, and then flop them overhead with an oversized loop and let your line crash into the water!   Splitshot will definitely help the lop portion of this cast, lol.

Or just convert to a euro rig like the rest of us 🙂

Jimbo, we are getting pretty good rain right now and for the next 24 hours.  Your wish may still come true.

Thanks for voting last week; I’m pleased to report that I won the contest and a new Douglas Sky G rod is en route.   I celebrated yesterday by making my way down to the river to enjoy this fine weather.    The fish were really keyed in on midges all day and there was an epic caddis hatch as the sun went down which made for excellent dry fly fishing.  It was a great day and a memorable way to close the Texas trout season for me.   Thanks for the support!

I snapped this shot of my fishing buddy making the most of the evening caddis hatch.

*water temps were still good near S-turn BTW – that is as far downriver as I fished.

Thanks JC! That’s good of you.    I feel like I’m running for class president, ha.

@jrcheno my apologies! I was only attempting to encourage the folks who haven’t been out since April (like me) that a healthy number of large beautiful rainbow trout survived the low water this summer.

I can’t speak for the fish you caught obviously but the ones I put in my net were fat and looked like they’ve been eating all summer.

    @mhamlettster
YES!  My buddy caught a beautiful brown I couldn’t believe it.  Must be from the 2018-2019 stocking, correct?

There was some conversation about putting signs up around lease sites making trout regulations more apparent.   Additionally, signs outlining the virtues of catch and release fishing would be wonderful. I’m happy to contribute a little extra cash if the GRTU adopts this project.

Sorry Justin, I’m not going to share the location of said holdovers, but I caught 8 yesterday all above 18” and 3 above the 20” mark.   But what I “saw” with my eyes was something else entirely… I won’t say what it was exactly but I can confirm a healthy population of large trout is currently in the river system.

Jimbo whatever you did worked.  I was expecting it to be a really tough summer for the fish.

I will contribute $50 to this cause.   I’m sure others would as well if we can find someone to lead the effort and it is permissible with lease owners.

Hey, Steve that is an amazing offer!    I would LOVE any nice flank feathers you come across or anything with nice barring.    Really any feathers with beautiful colors or intricacies.  There are also useful feathers on the ducks lower back (CDC) but these are much easier to get commercially.   I’ll send you a text momentarily.   I’m glad you’ll be back on the water this year!
