Her HS wrestling career was a ride, consuming every weekend and mid-week from Thanksgiving to March.  Sr-year, she lost her state championship by 2 points.

here’s a few more – first thing, commotion in your net

like we were talking yesterday, changing light made a difference turning them on – here’s the one you caught when the sun first broke (I got my other nice buck right after)

Sattler has the best chop in Texas

and yes, I have a hundred good photos of you and Alex each fishing all over the hill country (and even more of Ewell).

You in the natural flagstone lake down from Wagon Wheel Xing

    Alex in Hondo Creek impoundment

I still need to get both of you to the mouth of the Sabinal on the Frio.  We can eat at Hermann Son’s Steakhouse on the way back…

I’m wearing my studded felt-sole Patagonias to the river today with my stocking foot waders (neoprene feet) – and my thick merino wool trekker knee+ socks.  I always tell people I’ve fallen in the best fishing holes in North America, and it’s pretty much true.  There are some spots on the Guadalupe – mostly the downstream side of sloping dolomite – where nothing will keep you up.  There’s some black slate in Alaska, same same.

I also have the Astral Hiyak shoes and love them for the narrow footprint inside a kayak footwell – and yes, they’re sticky enough for probably any wading.  They also pair up great with the thin goretex feet in my Kokatat dry pants.  Have considered wearing this combo to the river, and may try it later.  BTW, I wrote a review on my Astrals for Moosejaw (where I bought them on sale for $75 – great deal – sorry, they’re not on sale now).  I won a $250 gift certificate for that review, and blew it all on Thermarest cot tent.  So I can recommend the shoes – I can also recommend writing reviews for Moosejaw…

But the people you want to consider a change may not find it here.

I’ll chime in the old style buttons were kind of classy, certainly easy to see, and instant fishing ephemera – in the past, many states used similar buttons for their license and permits

Ron, if you post on Chapter Business, might find the audience you really want for this topic.

Have a cool glass rod to add to this – 1960 Harnell 652, 8′ 7-wt.  This rod was designed by Jim Green before he straightened out Fenwick and went on to Sage legend.  Harnell was the top-grade rod of its day, and you can’t find the quality of this cork on modern rods.

Unfortunately, the period guides won’t let it fish a modern floating line very well – the original condition is too nice to alter – but it sings with a slime line.

Jimbo, I think you’re challenging Mick for number of toys.

    Great rod, anyway, bro.

jhough, saw your Gardo’s question, kind of off topic, but will reply here.  Except for deep nymphs on the drop at the top end and tailout of Gardos, have always had best results there with a Teeny T130 sinking line and bottom-bouncing a small streamer – white bass technique.  Plus the line lets you shoot all the way to the flagstone on the far bank.   Other places on the river the technique pays off are the bend pool at Rocky Top, below the Ponderosa bridge, and from Rocking R down to River Bank.  Also caught stripers that way at Barking Dog.  Probably would pay off on any slow deep hole.

I also use the line to swing soft hackle wet flies in deep tailouts – has always paid off at the gravel bar below Rockin R on the afternoon caddis hatch

Service is everything in gear and vendors.  For them it’s really a small price to pay to get good press and repeat business.  (Orvis figured that out long ago.)

thanks Jimbo – that’s Steve’s truck, and takes a system of 2 people to load 80-lb boats up there – the bars with rollers and saddles are Yakima.

He also has a nice trailer for 4 boats with J-cradles. (S. Padre 2 Novembers ago – we normally do fall trips to Estes and Arroyo City staying 2 or 3 nights in a canal house, and split the cost with as many as we can fit in)

I can single-hand my boat using a bed extender

ospreys live here, and bald eagles winter here – unsuspecting rainbows will take talons and may get a second chance to learn.

Don’t begrudge them their fishing – enjoy fishing along side them

    that came out nice.

I bought one of the CGR 7/8 glass rods for a sit-down quick-shoot kayak rod.

Went through my arsenal of salty lines and found the rod would handle the leader alone and front of and any line in close, was temperamental for shooting line – needed a lot of line, but wouldn’t abide overloading – but it did everything right with my Airflo slime line.  I could have the belly out on the 2nd stroke, and shoot twice the belly on the 3rd.

More testing with Teeny spliced shooting heads (130, 200, 250) nailed it down the rod loaded to shoot perfectly with a 200-gr head, and went searching from there for the perfect floating line.  Found it in Cortland Saltwater Guide WF7F.  I can repeat the 3-stroke drill and get line out to 70′
