I got reservations for Summit RV resort over Thanksgiving weekend. I’ve never been there before but figured it was a good time to check it out early in the trout season. It has 240 ft of River front. All of the RV spots are a bit off of the river, but they only charge 39 a night for an RV. 10% off of that if you are a good Sam member. I’ll post back on this thread after I stay there and let everybody know my thoughts on it.
I couldn’t agree with you more Trice. All of the best Rivers I’ve ever fished were catch and release only and only on artificial lures/flies. You are so right, we do have something awesome but it can become even better.
Unfortunately every time I talk to somebody about catching fish in Texas, Idaho, Utah , Colorado, Arkansas, or wherever it is, that person always wants to know how did that fish taste or did you keep any? They’re always baffled when I say we don’t keep any of our catch. And that’s just the way the general population views fishing. The only way that would change is by regulations. I just don’t think there is a way possible to educate enough people to have the proper respect for fisheries unless there are actual laws put in place. And I’m not totally against eating fish, I live down on the coast and keep an occasional redfish here and there. But something needs to change on the Guadalupe.
Nice job on the cleanup guys! There’s something really fulfilling about taking care of the places we enjoy. Props to you and your hard work!
Thanks Tommy. Like I said, we probably just stayed at the wrong time. We were there in May right when people started realizing camping was a great way to get out the house with the start of Covid. I probably should not have said anything, I really appreciate everything L&L does for TU, and it’s the perfect place for Troutfest. I imagine it’s a different place in the winter.
I appreciate what L&L does for GRTU, but I stayed there once and didn’t appreciate the float guide that launches there revving his enduro bike and riding wheelies out of there waking up my sleeping family, and the loud music at night. We probably just stayed there at the wrong time, but there’s no way I can convince my wife to go back now.
I’ve never stayed at Rio, but I know the staff is awesome and friendly.
Has anybody ever stayed at Summit RV resort? The pictures look nice, but pictures can be deceiving.
Something to consider also is that this year may be a bit of an anomaly because of Covid. Boat and RV sales have set astonishing records this year. Academy sports and outdoors was sold out of bikes for months. Outdoor activities hasn’t been this popular since the TV was invented. Everything in 2020 has been upside down and odd. Or, maybe this is the new normal.
Total speculation, but I can’t imagine LAP membership selling out before 4pm next year. That being said, I agree with Alex. Somehow priority should be given to previous LAP members.
I might be in the minority, but what about also raising membership pricing substantially. It would eliminate some who don’t appreciate what we have here. It sucks to raise the membership price, but it’s very little money in the big scheme of things. It’s actually ridiculously cheap. The money raised only benefits the river and what we love anyways.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I also like the idea of separate weekday and weekend memberships.</p>
I’m not sure if there is any perfect fix, but I do know that it was completely unfair for those that have been longtime members and missed out this year. 2020 sucks.I’ve been coping on the water. Living on the coast I get to chase redfish on the regular. Most boat ramps around here have been closed, but I can launch my nano skiff just about anywhere. Got to fish the Guad a couple days ago and was stoked to pick up my first palamino of the year. Not sure what I would do if I couldn’t fish or tie flies. Not sure I can handle it mentally. Some of us just need to be outdoors.
