I was certainly surprised to see this Sat. morning that auctions were already over and closed. I bid using your web site and lost some items—never could find out hours of the auction I could have monitored at bid to the conclusion.

Re Troutfest auctions on line/digital—- what are the times or hours of the live and when does the silent end ??? I may have “overlooked that info on the website. thanks for any response and you should probably do an email blast to promote auction as well as answer this question

This competition event has value and the best value is if it reaches beyond GRTU to all other stakeholders. If it is not promoted with TPWD and others it will only be “preaching to the choir”!

The role, responsibility, and input, of guides as stakeholders in this upcoming survey should be solicited. It is my observation , no data, that the biggest increase in fishing pressure over the last few years has been the increase in floating , either guided or private personal craft.

Compared to some other States, the informational signage re special regulations ( Trophy Trout Zone in our case) is severely inadequate.  Something  that could be addressed with TPWD as well as with property owners.  By the way are property owners subject to the same regulations as float wade fisherman.  If so that needs some consideration/enforcement

Thanks to all the volunteers, past and current, for that has been done to bring the fishery to this point of great success as evidenced by increased popularity.  The challenge is how GRTU can work with all other stakeholders to continue to provide and improve the fishery.  I hope the upcoming survey will focus on that challenge.

Jimbo, I really appreciate the historical narrative as it was very informative. I have some some limited experience with private clubs and fisheries in other states. They do stock fish, but only in their portion of the river where they control the land and the access sites by foot or wade.  The State also does extensive as well.  In many cases the public’s only access is by float thru. The private clubs usually have great relations with game wardens who aggressively patrol.

So I believe that GRTU LAP is very unique— a private club stocking in non private/unlimited land/wade access.

Should we continue to spend money to fund the general public’s fishing and protein welfare?

Why not lobby for significant increase in state stockers  with GRTU focus on improving the fishery ??

    Best Wishes,  jrcheno

And coffee beans, although not durable, look a lot like trout chow.

Alex, JC, Trey — really great review and reminders of tactics and technics to use on any trout stream!

I think that the quick change in trout activity  on the Guad ,both on and off, is greater than other tail water fisheries , based on my experiences. So could it be due to two things that are unique to the Guad;  (1) extreme pressure, even greater than the infamous Frying Pan, and (2) hatchery fish that do not carryover to acquire feeding behavior more typical of native/ wild or resident trout ?  Maybe they do feed in short bursts just as trained at the Crystal Lake hatchery  ,  just asking?

A question for you Guad experienced pro’s;  Why does” the bite” turn on and off so quickly on the Guad?

I know it is usually explained by ” the hatch” but that does not explain streamers, or does it? In my limited experience, other trout streams do not seem to have activity that comes and goes as suddenly  as it does on the Guad , and for all types of techniques.  For example,  Monday at Gardo there was a lot of mid morning  activity and success –some very nice size and well colored fish– on both streamers and pats rubber legs and midges and then it shut down rather suddenly. From then onward it was just very slow there and at other sites.  This experience is not unique but it just seems more dramatic or profound on the Guad. Just commenting and asking.    Thanks for any replies and insights.

How would “worker bee ” be defined?  Hard to get around on the river ,except to fish from boat, when you are 80 years old with arthritus.  Just saying!

Well here it is Sept 3 and I have returned to technology after fishing trip to Colorado to read some of above.  Does the Board care about input–have they requested any input?   NO_–   Maybe that is why there are so few opinions.  Re LAP, here is my concept— create a “Heritage Membership” to recognize long time members with considerations such as pre sign up.  Also , taking a page from golf course management, create a “Senior Membership” with weekday only access.  These membership classes could also be extended special considerations for other programs and possibly registration and fee discounts.

Take a page from golfing–weekday only for seniors at reduced rate.

I suggest you take a hint from the Golfing community— weekday only for seniors  and early registrations for VIP senior ,ie long term members.  Fees to remain constant for each of foregoing and a 15-20% increase for all others.  The senior week day may help with parking congestion on week ends.

Check out Flat Tops Wilderness; Alpine Angling in Carbondale Co. or Front Range Anglers in Boulder C0.  The snow in April will determine much about the run off and flows at time you will be there,  Good Luck,  jrcheno

Hey Andrew, your proper answer to Justin should have been the  type of water and method used.  For everybody — info—I “only” caught 2 last week in deep pool with streamer but  they were not in great shape— scarred up from some serious battles.

Thanks to all who have worked to keep this fishery active and as healthy as possible— if only GRTU could find a way educate/ inform others of the Regulations of Trophy Trout Zones, including the property owners. So sad to see our efforts going to supply protein to the neighborhood.
