Kanz has been my favorite spot this year. My husband and I were introduced to it late October on a wade guide trip I won at Troutfest. We were targeting holdovers. Kelli Prescott took us to “the gate”? Or the porch? We fished the deep pool seeing lots of monster fish but no strikes.

All if a sudden Kelli got real excited and then the fish got excited. GRTU had just dropped feed at Kanz and it floated down to us. The fish went mad. We sight fished and I landed my first and I think biggest trout ever. Super fun.

We moved back up to Kanz and fished that hole, catching a few more.

That hole has been lots of fun. Even with guides running through. I have been there with five or six fisherwomen and fishermen. Everyone catches fish. Would I prefer to be the only one out there? Yes! Is that possible on a weekend? No!

The worst behavior I have experienced at that spot is from other LAP members. Not the guides. One day two men (LAP) held the pool for five hours refusing to allow others to fish. Another time a gentleman pitched a fit and stormed off when I asked if I could join. After he left I caught a fish within five minutes.

My first day there on my own I sat off to the side to wait out two men. I think that’s the day I hiked from Rio so I rested and had my snack. One big guy asked his buddy if he was planning to catch all the fish again. His buddy said he would like to get them all. A few minutes later the big one  urged him to pull in his line and let me fish. They walked back upstream. I had one on before they were out of earshot to hear me whoop. They both had big grins seeing me catch a big fish. I’m not sure if they were LAP.

By and large, most everyone is willing to share the spot. Today I was on the far side. The young man opposite me was only using streamers. I had a chubby Chernobyl, orange woolly booger and egg. We timed our casting, both getting hits and lading fish. If I am there alone and someone approaches I invite them to join. I’ve met some fine fishermen this way. We all enjoyed the fishing and catching.

@christopher.e.gearin, Thank you for the suggestion!

Kevin, thanks for the explanation. I’d love to meet your wife. I am always looking for another lady fishing buddy. My husband frowns upon my sneaking out to fish alone. It’s the only fishing related thing we argue about. aAfter last weekend at 686 flow I agree, it isn’t best practice for me to be on the river alone but  I can still hate that fact. That’s one of my favorite things about being out in nature and in the water, being alone. 🙂

Thankfully, I found and joined TWFF, Texas Women’s Fly Fishers. Several  of the ladies in the LAP are TWFF. In fact, Dana Williams, my fishing buddy last week and a frequent contributor here in the forum is our newly installed President. If you don’t know about us,we are fishing fools! We have lots of fun and as ladies we are already genetically predisposed to organization and naturally getting things done so we have regular awesome outings where we get together and fish. One of my favorite things about our club is we welcome our husbands to join our events. Some lady clubs I’ve seen aren’t like that.

I’ll be at Troutfest in the TWFF and CFR booths most of Saturday. I hope to meet her then. Or PM me and we can plan to meet on the river soon. How is that for a DI activists? 😉

Yikes, the marathon is scaring me away. From all the posts it is clear there are plenty coming, you will not miss me and the spouse.  See you at the next stocking.

Have a great day and be careful!

Thanks Cassio. If my two extras don’t come may my husband and I ride with you? My two extras are guests who will join in fishing this year.

Four people in two cars coming from Austin. If we are carpooling should we meet up before Rio and get in one car or may we leave one at Rio?

    Jimbo,

You say we need all hands possible. My husband is coming. May I also  invite another friend who will be my frequent guest?

Jimbo, HA! It’s always a struggle to get him to eat more vegetables!

Thank you! I knew it must be easier than I thought.

I plan to join! May I bring my husband?

Jimbo, Thank you for clarifying I can buy more than the six guest passes offered when I purchased my LAP. How do I purchase more? At $15 each that’s a great deal! My husband will be thrilled to join me a few times this year. When he’s golfing I’ll bring other ladies out to fish. It’s great to know GRTU members want ladies in the sport! See you on the river soon.
