Are the Diamondbacks supposed to perform close to the top line rods, just made overseas, so cheaper? Wondering…

@Trey, what length 2wt are you fishing – 11′? And why, more sensitive since it’s lighter?

@Trey Thanks for the reply. I think it has to do with my new leader formula (a lot longer, so more stretch) and the rod action. I’ll work on fighting it with a deep C bend and see how that goes. I’ll also increase my drag a bit and play the big fish on the reel more.

@J.C. Thanks for the reply. I really do notice the big improvement with the T&T over the Cortland. I think I just need to put more heat on the fish (bend in the rod) based on the tip and longer leader setup (stretch). My losses are after the take and when the fight is on. I guess I’ll I have a few different things to try out if the fish cooperate.

I also use Hanak and Firehole hooks. I was skeptical on tying more euro nymph patterns but surprising to me, they actually work – perdigon, france fly, frenchie, and blow torch have all worked. I haven’t hooked a fish jigging a streamer yet.

    Thanks again.

@Jimbo – I get your point, I don’t strip set, just use the rod, but I feel like I get a good set – might be the difference is the softness of the tip. I’ll see if I can incorporate a strip set, although that would be un-natural for me, I only use strip sets on streamers… but I’ll try it out.

@Alex – Great questions, I do try to fish tight to the flies, but sometimes I do get sags in the line – usually because I don’t use a heavy enough point fly do to the number of snags. I might have to re-evaluate. That said, I’m seeing most of my strikes and I’ve sight fished fish as well, so I know when they took the fly. But there are enough times when I just feel it (aggressive fish). As far as strikes, I mainly get them up stream and across and down and my fishing is usually over a rod length away so I have an angle and not fishing directly below my rod tip. Also using two nymphs with the heavy on the point and I do use a tag for the upper.

With all the discussion, I feel it might be the stretch in the line (leader/tippet) combined with the new softer rod tip… maybe, and I appreciate the comments.

Does anyone Euro Nymph with a mono rig and just omit the fly line?
