If you are talking about the west 306 bridge (the motel access), I can’t provide much. From the motel, walk down to the river near the road. It is shallow on the west side and there is a deeper run on the east side. You can easily wade upstream. Downstream, I think it gets deep pretty quickly and I’m not sure you can wade.

From the east bridge (Whitewater and River Rose Cantina (our LAP site), there is good water in both directions. You can go upstream all the way to the end of the horseshoe. Expect a crowd on weekends. You can wade downstream as far as you want and find good runs along the way. It’s a 20- to 30-minute wade from the bridge to the Kanz weir, with multiple fishy spots along the route.

Jimbo – I recall you were involved in setting a couple of Whitlock/Vibert boxes several years ago at Maricopa. Was there any known success with that effort?

Yep! Easy. Great job! Now we have to find something else to complain about.? (NOT!)

Looking forward to the rest of your story. I was on the riverover the weekend with one of my sons and we had nothing but bright sunshine Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was challenging. They finally started biting for me Sunday evening at Kanz (after my son had gone back to work). Picked up five there and lost several AND had the place to myself!!! Got up Monday morning and went back to Kanz to take advantage of the overcast skies. Similar results and only had one fly fisherman walk by me.

I’ll be there. I had planned to rearrange my sock drawer that day, but this seems like a better plan.

I’m in total agreement on how GRTU “markets” on Facebook. It’s one large trout after another in grip and grin photos. Many of them aren’t even taken on the Guad, but it’s sometimes hard to tell.

Kanz is a long walk from River Rise or Rio only to find a convention. Especially early on a weekday. ?

I’m a senior, also, and got the email from Dustin that says I will have my LAP money returned if I don’t renew with TU national. The problem is, I already renewed months ago!! So frustrating.

I am renewed through next year, but got the same email from Dustin. I just received the calendar for next year, which is confirmation that TU recognizes my renewal. I can’t find any place on the TU national website to check my account and verify how long I am renewed for. Any ideas?

My problem with your suggestion … I’m not local. It’s a 4.5-5.5 hour drive each way for me, depending on traffic. I’m retired and I only fish on weekdays. I drive down, camp for three nights, then drive home. For me to drive that distance and then fish every other day is a deal-killer.

    I will be there.

Sorry that this happened. Action has been very supportive of GRTU historically. After the first stocking last year, they hosted the stocking crew to free burgers and beer. 6-7 years ago, my first year in the LAP, I was new to this and struggling and stopped in for help. The guy working there made sure my nymph rig was done correctly and took the time to tie one for me. I offered to pay and he refused. I hope what happened to you was just an aberration. As for the fishing, with higher flows some fish can hang just downstream from the bridge. With these flows, you probably need to go downstream or upstream from the bridge. There are some runs downstream and you can continue all the way to the CVC lease site.

A couple of weeks ago 1976 worked. I didn’t find a notification of that anywhere, but another LAP member drove up as we were trying to get in and he knew it.
