Have had the same experience. Broke my old 6wt tip section (about 10 years old) – believe it or not, but I closed the truck back window on it. They sent me a brand new one, since the old one no longer made. This has happened twice now. Their products may not be “world class” to some of the folks out there, but for my level of fishing that’s a distinction that isn’t germane; they work well for me and are entirely reasonable on price. I’m sticking with them on most things, although I’ve found that their wading boots don’t hold up and have switched to Simms.

I got the same email, but my national membership is good until 4/2023 so I should be good. Got an email from national confirming this, and my new member card that verifies it. Sent emails to the membership at GRTU but they’ve been returned and are not going through. Not sure what next to do.

I’ve met Dr. Fauci. He is a distinguished scholar, expert, and gentleman who has served humanity far more than most of us. No need for politics here.

I think having the meeting outside would be great. After all, we all claim to be “outdoorsmen/women/people”. Let’s be outdoors, weather permitting.

I also spent almost 4 hours trying to get in, without ever being successful, and I too had blocked off the early part of the day from work so I could try to get a lease. Tuesday going to be difficult for me, since I’m in surgery all day as I hadn’t planned on having to deal with this on that day, and I simply will not contemplate changing someone’s surgery time for something like this. So for the first time in years, I may not be fishing the Guad.

My thoughts not going to be popular, but here goes: the river is being loved to death, and combined with the ever increasing pressure to build along it, who knows what the future will bring. That’s why organizations like TU are critical and we have to support them. As a member I support having some kind of priority for current LAP leaseholders who are ACTIVE, or this mayhem will just continue and will get worse, if that’s possible. There are a number of very dedicated longtime GRTU/LAP supporters who are good people, follow the rules, and are some of the best representatives for the organization as well as stewards of the river and fishery, and it doesn’t make sense to not renew their lease. It would seem to me that GRTU would want to keep these folks coming back year after year. As I mentioned to the VP, regardless of what plans are made, many people are going to be mad  or unhappy in the end, so isn’t it logical to make happy those who are the best supporters of the chapter, the river, and the fishery? I would argue that these are the folks who have been coming back year after year and participating in the activities of the chapter. Even if current and active members are given priority, ALL of the leases will be sold, so GRTU isn’t losing any money there. I mentioned that my family has season tickets to the symphony, and every year the symphony allows the current ticket holders first dibs on renewing their tickets and seats prior to then releasing them to the general public, and yet they are still able to fill the hall easily. It rewards loyalty and patronage, and I think that would be the best way of handling this as well. Otherwise, a lot of good people who are very supportive of the chapter and the Guadalupe are going to quit trying. My two cents worth.

I’ve had trouble getting on the lease members site, for some reason was locked out. BTW, just got back from San Juan and Cimarron rivers – fishing well.

I do have some observations on the lease issues, but the first is that what’s happening on the Guad is happening all over the country. Wife and I were road tripping in Utah, and several of the National Parks were closed for day visits – because they were full. In mid September! We are literally loving all of our natural resources to death.

I’d favor a weekend vs. weekday pass, since as I live here I rarely go out on the weekend anymore due to the numbers of anglers. Can’t imagine who would want to police it.

Someone previously suggested that those who actually show up to help with the stockings should have some kind of priority, and I agree with that. I also agree that there should be some consideration for those who have been with the program for a while (at least 5-6 years), and for those who have some kind of leadership position (seems silly that someone like Jimbo should have to compete for a tag like those who’ve never participated).

I know of several members who renew their lease every year but then only go fishing once, or twice. Seems like a waste of a membership. Would be nice to limit the memberships to those who actually show up, but would be difficult to enforce.

I don’t know the best method for priorities (seniority, participation, leadership activity), but it does seem like the time has come to do something different.  As far as what I do every year – I go to my office early, where I have blazing internet speed at my computer, and I am ready to go at precisely 0700.

I saw them clearing that area earlier this year and wondered what was up. You could try the environmental impact route to see what could be done, but dude, this is Texas and the mighty greenback is all that matters to these cowboys as we become California on the Gulf. I’m in favor of stocking at Maricopa then nothing until Rio. Those lots will be 7 figures, so those folks can afford to stock for themselves.

Spent alot of time on the San Juan, great place. You can check out Jay Walden’s reports on the river at: https://www.sanjuanriver.com/fishingreports.

Durango has some surprisingly active fishing along the Animas within the city, with alot of places to easily access. Upper Animas above Durango should be flowing well in June.

The Blue River below Dillon dam easily accessible, runs through the town of Dillon.

    Good luck.

Little Ponderosa is down a slope but its a gentle slope, and the roadside bank of the river is fairly shallow and gradual so shouldn’t be very difficult if you take your time. And some good slots and holes in that area. Have fun.

    There’s typically 4 or 5 during a season.

I would imagine that most of these stocked fish wouldn’t taste very well, given that they are raised on pellets, so not sure why anyone would want to eat one anyway.

First thing I would do is get a guide and do a float trip for a day (a “recon”), and take notes. Attending the stockings is a great way to see most of the sites, as well as bend the ear of the guys and gals who are veterans to the sport and the river. For a really good and free overview for fly fishing techniques, there are zillions of Youtube videos on any subject you want to search for. If you go the Orvis webpage, Tom Rosenthal has oodles of teaching videos on all aspects of fly fishing, both warm and cold water. Then, just get out there, add water, and enjoy.

    Thanks for you service.

I would support some kind of system that gives weight to length of membership as well as participation. Devil would be in the details but might be worth the effort. I also wonder if some kind of weight be given to those who actually use the membership. I personally know of a friend who usually signs up every year (don’t know if he did this year) yet might go fishing one time in a season, or not at all. I’ve heard many other members, particularly from distances away, who only come once or twice a season, while it would be a shame for someone who goes a lot to have missed out this year. Is that a reasonable thought?

I think I had to view the video about 30 times, but finally got in after 2 hours this morning. Worth the time to me, but I feel for those who couldn’t sign up. Sold out in less than one day? I wonder how many members get the annual lease but then just use it once or twice?
