WORD provides them free of charge to the public at their office. When we have cleanups we get the bags from them.
February 3, 2024 at 5:40 am #16291What made this go work for GRTU and the property owner was an honest member who reported it to a Board Member the day it happened. That is how we maintain good relationships with property owners and avoid losing leases.
November 3, 2023 at 9:34 am #15913I’d also suggest visiting the local fly shops, Gruene Outfitters, Action Angler and Reelfly, and ask questions and support those businesses. If you are in the Austin area, Living Waters Fly Fishing and Sportsman’s Finest are great resources also. Attending the stockings and talking to folks who have been LAP members for a long time is also beneficial. Welcome and good luck on the river.
October 10, 2023 at 9:21 am #15895Willie – Cleanups fall under the Conservation Chair so please contact Chris Johnson at johnsonc@grtu.org or give him a call at the fly shop.
September 14, 2023 at 11:40 am #15887Post todays Orientation, Robilyn sent me this text. The method works well worldwide!!!
For your info: today we had people watch the session from Canada, Israel, United Kingdom, Greece, and Portugal !! These are legit members who all told me they would be on trips and would try! They tried and were successful !! Pretty impressive !
September 13, 2023 at 6:32 pm #15885If you are one of the over 100 folks who verified (Step 2) but haven’t registered, do so now or contact Robilyn. Commenting here will not help in any form.
September 12, 2023 at 10:19 am #15881Thank you your temendous efforts (and shit loads of time) on making this into an amazing weekend!
July 27, 2023 at 2:16 pm #15861Chris is off to Colorado again this Saturday for a week so he’ll be tough to get ahold until after that. He takes chasing RGCT’s really seriously!
July 27, 2023 at 2:15 pm #15860Ron – Chris Johnson has not logged into the Forum for well over a year now. He’s got the info now and will review. Any questions, give him a holler.
Now let’s all pray for rain!
July 26, 2023 at 10:25 am #15858Ron – I passed this info on to Chris Johnson as he is our Conservation Chair. Thanks for the info.
As a reminder:
Please note that while the GRTU Board does occasionally review member posts on this forum, it is truly intended for member engagement with one another. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for the Board to consider, please do not use this forum for that communication, but contact a Board member directly at one of the email addresses on our contact page.

We did not have any inability to stock issues with regards to the 22-23 season stocking. It was a very smooth year as far as stockings go. We stocked four full truck loads of fish as we have for the past number of years. We had two loads in Nov, one in Dec and one in January. Those were the planned dates (months) and amounts requested by Dan Cone and the fisheries committee and approved by the board during the April 22 budget meeting. Cost went from $24k per load to $26k per load last year and is rising to $29k per load for this season. We plan to stock four loads again this year beginning when the water temp drops to acceptable levels which have almost always been Nov. We have to give the hatchery advance notice for delivery and Oct has just been way too dicey in TX. We are monitoring the temps and flows and hope that we are able to have another good season on the Guad. Pray for rain!!!

Dec stocking – https://members.grtu.org/forums/topic/stocking-announcement-friday-december-9th/
Jan stocking – https://members.grtu.org/forums/topic/stocking-announcement/The LAP is a self funding program and run that way so as to not cost our approximately 5,000 members who do not join any money. LAP fees pay for the fish, leases and the summer feeding program.

Construction schedule update at Canyon Lake
CANYON LAKE, Texas — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Canyon Lake has rescheduled gate replacement work that was planned for this year.
The gates are functioning as designed and priority in sequence of repairs has changed. Work on the control tower service bridge will precede gate replacement work. As a result of this change, USACE does not anticipate disruptions to river flow releases that would have resulted from the gate replacement work. USACE intends to change over low flow releases to the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority later this week.
“Inspections and major repair work are needed to ensure that Canyon Dam and its associated water control infrastructure are properly maintained and function as designed to meet mission requirements and manage downstream risks that ultimately protect life safety and property” said Canyon Lake Manager, Javier Pérez Ortiz.
Canyon Lake staff members encourage all visitors to practice leave-no-trace, use designated trash receptacles and always wear a life jacket while boating or anytime in or near the water.
For additional information contact the Canyon Lake Office at 830-964-3341 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Hope this helps. We will continue to monitor flows and temps as fall approaches to decide when it is appropriate to begin stockings. We need Jimbo doing his rain dance daily!

July 14, 2023 at 10:50 am #15845Lease Access Program – 4 Step Process
STEP 1 – MEMBERSHIP EXPIRATION DATE – DEADLINE TO COMPLETE JULY 31st
Anyone interested in being eligible to participate in the 2023-2024 LAP program MUST have a valid TU membership record with an expiration date that extends beyond October 2024 or have a LIFE membership with TU. Members have until July 31, 2023 to renew their TU membership and extend their expiration date beyond October 2024! Members are responsible for verifying their membership expiration date by visiting this link tu.org/login and check under membership details for their membership expiration date. Members can renew their membership from that same link. Each renewal will add 12 months to your expiration date, so you can renew at any time. Do not wait until July 31st to do this please! NOTE: If your current expiration date is before October 2023, you will need to renew your membership TWICE (which will add 24 months to your membership) in order to have an expiration date that extends past October 2024! If you do renew your membership TWICE, please email me at pettitr@grtu.org and simply state you had to renew twice. Thank you!
Members have until July 31, 2023 to have their membership renewals completed and qualify to move on to Step 2. YOU WILL NOT BE ELGIBLE TO CONTINUE THE PROCESS IF YOU FAIL TO MEET THE MEMBERSHIP EXPIRATION DATE QUALIFICATION BY JULY 31ST!

To validate your record and eligibility, go to the GRTU webpage anytime between August 5th and August 31st and follow the instructions on the website. You will need to know your TU membership number to validate your record. You will also be required to enter your vehicle license plate number on your record. If a member does not validate their record BEFORE August 31st, member WILL NOT be allowed to move on to Step 3.
STEP 3 – ORIENTATION
ONLY Members who validated their membership record by August 31st (see Step 2) will be sent an invitation to register for a LAP orientation meeting. The invitation will be emailed by September 5th. The invite will allow members to register for a live, online ZOOM orientation meeting during the month of September, between the 8th and 30th. Members are REQUIRED to participate in one of the LAP orientation meetings before they can proceed to Step 4 and be eligible to purchase a LAP permit.
STEP 4 – LAP PERMIT SALE
After completion of ONE of the Zoom orientation meetings, the member will qualify to receive a link via email and/or cell phone text on the date the LAP permits go on sale the first week of October. ONLY 800 LAP permits will be available this year on a first come, first serve basis. The cost of the permit is $180. A TU Individual membership is limited to only ONE LAP permit purchase. A TU Family membership may purchase up to TWO LAP permits for family adult members in the same household. Guest and youth passes will be available for $20 each with the purchase of a LAP permit. Guest and youth passes are limited to SIX each per year, per LAP permit.
The 2023-2024 LAP Season will begin November 1, 2023 and end October 31,2024.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Robilyn Pettit, Membership Chair, at pettitr@grtu.org and she will be happy to assist.June 23, 2023 at 10:33 am #15835We have been in contact with Patrick Ireland at TPWD for a few months now and they are having new regulation signs made. I do not have a date of install at this time.
We (GRTU) are going to have Fish Handling and Trophy Zone signs made and installed. Contact Chris Johnson or Dan Cone with questions.
We (TPWD and GRTU) gleaned some good ideas from Tyler Emanuel of Reel Fly Fishing’s Senior Project which can be seen here https://tyleremanuel34.wixsite.com/thetexasrainbow/river-signage
