I caught several fish today that didn’t have good color. They looked dull and colors were washed out. They also didn’t fight as well and took a bit of reviving to get them going for the net. Not sure what was up, but I haven’t seen this before. None of them had the spots though.
I’ve watch lease members fish without a net and drag fish up onto the bank to release. I expect it from the one trip a year people who just don’t know or care, but if you know enough to be on the leases, you should know how to handle fish. Best not to touch them at all if possible.
Saw you guys Sunday as I was walking out. Thanks and good job. That stretch really gets trashed. I too saw quite a few dead fish, a couple were rainbows less than 18 inches. My guess is a bait fisherman hit the spots and killed a few trying to get the one they could walk out with. I fish that area a lot and that was the largest number of dead fish I have ever seen there. Same thing seems to happen at barking dog to the S turns. At times there seems to be piles of dead fish. Very sad. We all need to pay attention and call the Game Warden any time you see people breaking the law. We also need to do all we can to get bait fishing in the trophy water shut down! We have an opportunity to create a great trophy water fishery with large numbers of holdovers, if we keep working at it. What we have is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but we can make it even better. Maybe the increase in quality C&R fishermen, will actually help protect the fish.
Again Thank You!
