Just make the area that is all catch and release except one fish, on artificial, over 20″, andm ake it No bait, Single hook, barbless, C&R only. That would be simple and ideal I think.

If you get the chance, Williams Creek outfitters in Pagosa Springs CO specialize in Euro style and they will do a one on one guide trip to teach you everything. But JC is one of the best. He has schooled me a few times.

Joe says if he was still at T&T, these new rods would be the Contact III. We’ll see when they come out. I havent been able to find anything on them online.

I reached out to Diamondback on when the new Euro rods would be available. Direct quote from Joe himself “We are expecting the first few sizes to be available around the middle of March. Pretty soon!”
I’m waiting to see what they come up with.

I wish TU would put a great euro rod on their lifetime members sales area. I’d pay a bit more for it to go to them, and I’m sure they get their rods at a discount from the vendors. That’s how I justified my Sasge X in my pre-euro phase.

I fished from below the wier at #5 to Potts today. I saw 3-4 dead fish at the s turn, and a couple others. The fish I caught were fiesty and full of fight. I saw quite a few really big fish and landed a couple and saw a few really small fish and landed one of those. They are still bunched up from what I saw this afternoon but they seemed healty.

My comments are one that turns on and off via a push button is way better than a twist on and off. Alex is correct on the sunlight thing. Hit them with the light to firm them up, stick them to a foam cup then set the cup outside for a bit.

I agree with JC and Alex.  We need a “culture shift”.  We need the Guadalupe river community, fishermen, landowners, business owners, TPWD, GBRA, etc to understand the value of having a truly sustainable, world class trout stream in Texas.  There is real value in this for all the parties.

In order to have that we need to protect the resources.  That means the river, the water, the fish, etc.  Allowing people to fish with bait and treble hooks kills the fish weather they keep it or not.  A dead fish is a fish that is no longer a resource.  We need laws in place and fully supported by and enforced by the fishermen, businesses, landowners, TPWD, etc.  It also doesn’t have to be an all or nothing.  We can keep the upper part of the river as “quality water”, and the lower parts could be a catch and keep areas.  There is room for both and it makes sense to have both.  It’s tough for a fish to live all year below Pott’s I would bet.

Right or wrong, Texas is a land owner rights state.  TPWD understands that is is likly not too willing to push for more restrictive rules on the Guad.  If we are talking about where we need to put our resources, this is where I think we should be working.

Doing things like this FFTUSA event helps show the community what is possible and why protecting the resources is so important over time to create a truly sustainable world class trout stream in Texas.

I’ll get off my soap box now.

Lots of tungston beads and jig hooks.  I also like the Tungston Taco Egg.  But do well on any normal patter just tied as a tungston jig.  I picked it up this past summer and man it is WAY more effective than Indicatior nymphing and more fun, but, it doesn’t work everywhere.  The slower the water the tougher euroing is for me. but I like to fish fast water and it is the best at that.  And you can fish tiny pockets of water you can’t fish with an indicator.

Here is one I got a couple years ago in the Guad.  I caught this one in April I think.

Just a note on the wardens.  I have called several times when I have seen violations.  The vast majority of times they call right back and work with me to find the poachers and take action.  I’ve even seen one wade out to the island by the S-Turns to catch a guy, take his fish and write him a ticket.  My interactions have been good.

And I agree on having true Quality Waters.  But Texas is a private land owner rights state.  That will be a tough one.

I’ve had weeks at a time I can’t get into the Forum due to bad  time stamps on the server.  We all know what happened with signup for LAP.  I am a lifetime member to TU an still had to sign up yet again this year.

It is time for the Chapter to fund a new site, with information that can scale to handle the signup for LAP or outsource it to someone who can run it properly.  These things are not expensive and are doable.

    It is time.

I am a lifetime member also.  But this year signing up for the LAP it would not validate my membership number so I had complete the process as if I was renewing my TU membership.  It charged me for it but did have my lifetime TU member number at the end.  I guess I just made another $35 donation to TU.
